OBLITERATE By Barr. Hachituru Ewhorlu Esq
As I watched her with keen eyes, I could see how engrossed she was in her device. She wasn't paying attention to the slightest noise around her so much so that a 504 Peugeot almost ran over her. Poor little thing with such a careless lifestyle I thought to myself as I followed behind her.
I didn't like the way she walked, swaying to one side only and hunching her shoulders as if she measured 6ft6. Well one would have wondered how I knew so much at my age. Dad was a carpenter and he used measuring tapes all the time.
My object of attraction had tiny legs with big feet. I could tell from the size of her red sneakers. How could a girl be so endowed with such unattractive and irregular body parts? It was enough that her left shoulder drooped but did she have to be tiny-legged too? No! I didn't think so too.
I saw her swipe her hand across her face to remove the sweat which probably glistened on her forehead. This was why I hated human beings. The last few days had been moistened by continuous torrential drops and today was the only sunny day we'd had in seven days. Why then did she have to swipe sweat from her brows or did she not know she ought to be grateful for the warmth?
She cornered into one of the unfamiliar streets and I followed her. By now my hands were quaking in my jean pockets. Her phone rang and she brought the device to her ear. I heard her laugh and reply the caller with sweet lovely words, the exact words my elder brother always said to his 'sugar' on the phone whenever they were at those horribly long calls. They bored the hell out of me and their conversations drove sleep from my eyes. Now here was another fellow who had the same lifestyle as my annoying big brother. I needed to take care of him too. Soon on one of these fateful days I would do so.
The evening sun began hurrying back behind the bank of gray clouds and I still continued on my trail, so fascinated as to what her reaction would be. I didn't know if she would gaze at me in bewilderment or fear. Wow! I could already feel the pleasure building up speedily in my chest.
At a dark bend she dashed her feet against a bump on the road and stumbled over. A wide grin stole across my face in that moment. The fun was just getting started tonight. Then I began humming one of my favourite tracks. Richard my elder brother always disturbed my peace with that song whenever the power holding company pitied us enough to bless our lives with a flash of electricity.
'Knocking on heaven's door' was just perfect for this occasion.
